This compact disc presents a selection of folk songs from the Dustbowl and Great Depression Era. The music on this album is a uniquely American type of folk known as the Talking Blues . The Talking Blues is a style of folk that puts the lyrical content up front as the driving force of the song. The lyrics are spoken in a regular talking voice (as opposed to being sung), and are generally accompanied by a simple chord pattern played on the guitar or banjo. Performed by prolific folk recording artists Pat Foster and Dick Weissman, these recordings are representative of what you would have actually heard being performed around the nation during that turbulent era in American History. These songs truly capture the spirit of the time, they are like a window to the past. They illustrate how many things never change in the realm of human interaction. Discontent with the government, disdain for the status quo, and the plight of the working man are all themes that are just as relevant and important today as they were then.
